Rules + Ratings = Realism That's our motto here at the FBPro Federation. It is our sincere belief that the FBPro series of games from Sierra can be played in a manner condusive to acheiving realistic statistical totals, and a pleasurable viewing experience. If you've ever played in an online league, you know there are lots of strange things possible with this game. Over time, experienced players have found "AI busters", which are gaming tricks a player can use to make good things happen for him, or bad things happen for his opponent, or both. We've also found many things you can do that "fool" the artificial intelligence of the game engine momentarily, thus causing a player to react in a way that is far from the reaction you'd expect from a human being playing football. So the more experienced we got, the more goofy stuff we found we could do. Let's face it... when you join an online league, you do so to compete against other human beings. Beating the heck out of the computer just isn't fun after a while. This is great... online competition with the FBPro series is one of the most enjoyable hobbies going. But because it is a competition, however friendly, the participants will do everything in their power to win each game. We're human beings... we want to win... period. The problem arises when you take the above two facts and put them together. A coach wants to do everything he (or she) can to beat the other team. The game has a ton of oddities that allow the player to do some pretty wild things. And if those tricks will help one coach beat another, you can be certain that they'll be exploited! Okay, so coaches will do anything to win, and there are some tricks that make it easier. So what? Well, by using these tricks... from the true AI busters to the little quirks... in the name of the almighty victory, the competition becomes more and more one of "gaming the game" as opposed to "playing football". If that's what you want to do, then great... you don't need us. But if you, or your league, is tired of watching games that in no way resemble the ones you watch on TV every Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the fall, then the FBPro Federation has the answer! |
